Production Assistant

  • Part-time/seasonal (approximately 15-20 hours per week) with the opportunity to transition to a more permanent role
  • Hourly; non-exempt (overtime eligible)
  • Supports the production pipeline of Colour and Cotton products including hand dyed fabric and fibers, from material preparation to final product finishing 
  • Work location: Manchester (St. Louis), Missouri - near intersection of Manchester Road and Highway 141

Founded in 2016, Colour and Cotton is an artisan dye studio that provides unique fabric, thread and other fibers for needlework and crafts. Additionally, our brick and mortar retail storefront opened in May 2023. We provide crafters with inspiring materials via a variety of retail and wholesale channels. Position Overview

Do you consider yourself crafty? Do you enjoy working with your hands and being able to see your work turn directly into finished products? Would you enjoy working in a creative and flexible atmosphere? A production position at Colour and Cotton might be a great fit for you!

Execute production activities as assigned, including but not limited to preparing base materials for dyeing, material handling of dyed products, preparing dyed products for finishing and packaging, counting inventory, keeping production areas tidy and organized, shipping, receiving, and other duties as assigned

  • Ensure that high quality standards of products are consistently met
  • Flexible schedule and very casual dress code
  • Prior experience in sewing, quilting, or fiber arts is a plus but not required. Training will be provided.

 Candidate Requirements 

  • Works independently with minimal supervision; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • A positive, upbeat attitude and a desire to work as part of a team toward the common goal of bringing the highest quality craft materials to stitchers all over the world
  • Agile and flexible to strategize and ensure priorities are always in order – our product production cycles are fast-paced and flexible based on changing needs
  • Maintain consistent high level of quality in finishing and packaging materials and dyed products
  • Cut, iron, fold, prepare and package finished goods with accuracy
  • Basic mathematical skills and comfort with measuring various dimensions and weights accurately
  • Ability to operate small manufacturing machinery following all proper safety precautions, including but not limited to:
    • Commercial thread/spool winder
    • Commercial iron
    • Drill press
    • Industrial paper cutter
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed including N95 mask, gloves, and cut-resistant gloves 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to both stand and sit for long periods of time, often for the majority of the work day
  • Able to perform repetitive physical tasks, such as bending, handling small materials, reaching above shoulder, reaching outward
  • Regularly lift and move lightweight objects up to 10 pounds; sometimes lift and move objects up to 25 pounds; occasionally push/pull items up to 50 pounds
