Colour and Cotton fabric is processed start-to-finish in our St. Louis studio. From dragging boxes of raw material from the loading dock to the final peel-and-stick of the shipping label, every yard dyed is a true adventure for our team!

Our process and philosophy at Colour and Cotton reflect not exclusivity, but the joy of individuality. Please, don’t be discouraged by any ‘out of stock’ notices on your favorite colors. All fabric is dyed in small batches for quality control to give you our very best. We hope that you’ll use this site as a roadmap rather than a rulebook for your own stitching journey, embracing the inimitable nature of each piece and building inspiration for the kinds of colors our studio might mix up next!

Our team always tries to work with the dye instead of against it. We treat each fresh container as a brand-new journey and begin our trek with an open mind, following the individual quirks of each dye, discovering how they interact with each other to find colorways we love – sometimes measured and recreated, sometimes a well-predicted first try, but often completely and wonderfully unexpected! Our fabric colors flow with the seasons and rotate in and out, meaning that our dye room is always busy but never the same each day. When one of the countless hand-dyeing variables shifts a color past recognition, we don’t push – we say a fond goodbye and start anew, letting the path take us to a different but equally lovely result.

We try our hardest to keep our fabric available – we love to see it out in the world and as part of your projects! We periodically offer releases of ready-to-ship fabric and limited openings of pre-orders that ship within 8 weeks.
